Hey guys
This is Keagan Curtis Fish here, from Keagan Curtis Music, and I’m going to tell you how I got involved with The 9 Miles Project.
So how it all began was one day walking with Nigel Savel, the founder of Nine Miles. He told me about his vision (this was before everything started), and he told me his love for surf and his limitations in terms of where he came from and how passionate he was about surfing, and how he had this dream and this vision from God to really take it to the community, to go back to his community in Strandfontein.
He told me about the project and I was so inspired. I watched the documentary that they made and I felt it in my heart to do something fresh and something new for the project with the gift that I had in music. That’s where the whole vision behind the Nine Miles song came, and when the Nine Miles theme song was released into the communities I saw the impact it had on young lives, how excited they got, and how connected they were to the song, and how it started to touch families as people began to come to me and say look, The Nine Miles project itself has touched my life but this song has added so much more value to it. It gives me a connection to this project, I can sing it in my car.
Since then, I always had the vision to release it to the general public to let everybody know that there are real superheroes out there. Nigel Savel and Sher-neil Savel with The Nine Miles Project, and I wanted to be a part of that with all that I had. So that’s how I started and got involved with The Nine Miles Project.
THE NINE MILES THEME SONG EXPLAINED
So the Nine Miles song came about one day, sitting around, just meditating on the documentary that I saw. Getting into The Nine Miles Project and what it was about. It inspired hope inside my personal life. I felt like, what kind of song can I write for this project that will connect, not just to The Nine Miles Project, but to what it stands for. Just hope. When times look tough, when times look like, impossible, is there hope for me to survive, to get through that next season, that next obstacle in your life.
I felt that the lyrics of the song were so fitting. It was probably the fastest song I’ve ever written. In fifteen minutes after I watched the documentary of The Nine Miles Project, the lyrics fell into my lap, into my heart should I say.
It just inspired me altogether, in fifteen minutes I wrote the song, I called Nigel Savel up, and said: “Look, I’ve got the song for Nine Miles, I want you to come to my home and listen to it”. Graciously they came, and they just loved it, they just enjoyed it. We all knew at that moment that The Nine Miles Song would be something to inspire hope into the communities.
Some of the lyrics just to give you some insight is:
We’re almost there
Nine Miles is all that’s left for us to go
He’s already there
My God in Christ makes all things possible
Nine Miles is all that’s left for us to go
So that is the heart behind the song, it’s just that no matter what you find yourself in, whatever space you find yourself in, in life, there’s always hope. When God is on your side there’s always hope. With The Nine Miles Project there will always be hope for the community of Strandfontein with the hope, with the legacy that The Nine Miles Project is leaving behind.
WHEN IS THE FULL ALBUM AVAILABLE?
The album is available officially from the 9th June 2018, this will also be the live launch of the album and we’ll be celebrating five years with The Nine Miles Project. So, we encourage you to get involved and to get hold of me, to get this album. This is an independent album, so I’m still waiting for connections to be made, but they will come, and I think that when the heart of the song reaches people’s hearts, then I think it will begin to open up doors for The Nine Miles Project and also for Keagan Curtis Music. So I encourage you to support The Nine Miles Project and Keagan Curtis Music. It will bring great exposure for the community and for God.
